30 Day Drawing Challenge Day 3



To help create shading and value on your drawings, you want to add in what's known as cross contour lines to your basic contour drawing. Going back to our hand drawing, you will add in shading that follows the form of the hand.

As you can see in the example, rather than add in straight lines for shading, you want to add in lines that follow the shape of the hand.

As an added example, you can see the 2 circles below the hand. The circle on the left has straight lines as the shadow. The circle on the right has curved lines for a shadow giving a more realistic look to the circle. This is cross contour shading.
