30 Day Drawing Challenge - Day 4
Day 4 is all about Shape! After shape is fundamental to drawing in that everything you draw is made up of basic shapes.
In the image shown below, you can see there are 2 types of shapes: Geometric and Organic. Geometric shapes are those that can be mathematically calculated, those with straight edges like squares, rectangles, trapezoids, circles, triangles and variations of those. Organic shapes are those you would find in nature, like leaves and animals and clouds. These are shapes with irregular edges.
What's important to realize is that everything you draw is made up of basic geometric shapes!
** For today's sketchbook exercise, draw both geometric and organic shapes as shown above. Then, find a couple of images and trace over the basic geometric shapes that make up the image. (See below for an example.) Breaking down images into their basic geometric shapes some of the mystery out of drawing and helps give you a blueprint for what do draw.
